The project "New professions - new opportunities!"

In 2020, the DVV International Uzbekistan supported the project "New professions - new opportunities!", which is being implemented in the faraway village of Fergana district "Yangi Yul" (on the border with Kyrgyzstan).  The project goal is to improve the situation of unemployed women through vocational training, creating income sources and ensuring employment. Employment of girls and women who live in rural areas and do not have vocational training is one of the most critical problems. Targeted support to such women is a priority activity of the Center for Social and Legal Support of Women and Children "Mekhrjon" (NGO). This organization has already implemented six projects aimed at improving the socio-economic status of rural women.  There was no own bakery in the village of Yangi Yul and each day bread and pastries were brought from Fergana (about 40 km). Within the framework of the current project, a training and industrial culinary workshop was created and equipped with modern technological equipment, and a modern TV set with an opportunity to connect to the Internet was purchased. 22 unemployed girls and women are learning the profession of " baker-confectioner". They are trained by two teachers who arrive from Fergana every day. After completing the professional course, some women will be provided with jobs in their village, while others will be able to try to start their own business. For this purpose, workshops on business skills will be held at the end of the training. According to the words of Khurshida Ibragimova, director of the NGO "Mekhrjon", women really like the project; they are happy to learn, quickly understand the secrets of mastery and do not want to stop even for breaks. We hope that the acquired knowledge and skills will help women to improve their self-esteem and the quality of life of their families.
