Inclusion project: Training for teachers on interactive learning methods for adults with disabilities

Six-day ToT from August 2–7, 2019 was conducted at the Centre for Learning Methodology and Quality Monitoring of the Ministry for Labour, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan. The objective of the training was capacity building of Adult Training Center (ATC) trainers and its branches in interactive methodology for adult learners with a focus on the needs of people with disabilities. 22 teachers and master trainers from ATC and its branches in Dushanbe, Panjakent and Rasht participated in the training.

“During this training, our participants will be trained in interactive methods of adult learners and the special attention will be paid to the vocational training of people with disabilities,” said Dilbar Bakaeva, the Executive Director of the NGO Adult Education Association of Tajikistan.

According to the agenda, besides the learning methodology - training participants also explored on isolation reasons of people with hearing impairments in the society, the methodology of teaching people with hearing impairments and the role of sign language in the vocational training, IT technologies for training of people with disabilities, learning methods for people with visual impairments and many others.

In order for the specialists of ATC to understand the sensitivity when working with people with disabilities, the training agenda includes not only theoretical, but also practical exercises. For example, master classes on confectionery, repair of household appliances, floriculture and beekeeping, which allows participants to further consolidate their knowledge obtained during the training” said Dilbar Bakaeva.

Mahbuba Gafurova, a Confectioner from ATC Dushanbe, said this training helped her to learn specifics of teaching people with disabilities. “It’s easy to work with a person without disabilities, when you explain something, and he or she performs. Today I realized what issues to consider when teaching people with disabilities. These six days have been very fruitful for me, since in addition to theory, we consolidated our knowledge by working in small groups and participating in master classes” said Mahbuba.

This training was conducted within the framework of the project "INCLUSION: Promotion of Social Change and Inclusive Education in Tajikistan" co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is implemented by the Country Office of DVV International in Tajikistan in partnership with local NGOs the League of Disabled Women "Ishtirok" and Adult Education Association of Tajikistan.
