Monitoring visit of representatives of the DVV International in Uzbekistan to the Bukhara region

“Promoting Gender Transformative Territories/Communities through Civil Participation” the Project is co-funded by the European Union in Uzbekistan and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

The project is being implemented by DVV International Uzbekistan in partnership with the National Center for Socio-Economic Development (NCSED) “SABR”.
In the Bukhara region, the implementation of the project is supported by the Bukhara branch of the International Organization “Tadbirkor Ayol”.

On May 6–7, 2025, a monitoring visit was conducted to assess the implementation of the project at the project locations in the Peshku and Vobkent districts of the Bukhara region.

The purpose of the monitoring visit is to evaluate the outcomes of the project's activities directly at their respective locations, and to engage with representatives of target groups, beneficiaries, stakeholders, and the project team in order to identify future development paths.
During the monitoring visit, the project team visited the Local Development Centers in the Peshku and Vobkent districts, operated by the NCSED “SABR”, where vocational courses and educational programs aimed at supporting vulnerable groups of the population, particularly women, are being implemented.

The first cycle of vocational courses was completed last year, while the second cycle began in May and will conclude at the end of June 2025. The vocational course programs cover a variety of areas, including computer technology, sewing, hairdressing, and confectionery skills. Additionally, the courses are complemented by training on human rights, business fundamentals, and other relevant topics designed to enhance participants' self-employment prospects and overall development.

Graduates of the 2024 courses and recipients of business initiatives highlighted that the knowledge and practical skills they acquired are actively applied in their daily lives, contributing to the expansion of self-employment opportunities. They shared their initial results and plans for the further development of their entrepreneurial activities. (A total of 8 business initiatives were supported in these areas).
Meetings were held with representatives from the Zandani (Peshku district) and Kosari (Vobkent district) mahallas, as well as with officials from the khokimiyats and district departments of employment and poverty reduction in Peshku and Vobkent districts. During these meetings, the project's achievements and challenges were discussed, and the next steps for implementing project activities were agreed upon.

In the Vobkent district, the winners of the media marathon “Gender Transformation through Creativity: From Frame to Word and Slogan” were awarded. They submitted interesting and creative works, including photos, posters, slogans, and stories that highlighted the potential for gender transformation in local communities.

Success stories of vocational course graduates:

1. Guzal Ibodullayeva, a graduate of the sewing course from Peshku District, was given a sewing machine as part of her business initiative, which helped her start her own business. Now, she teaches two female students and takes orders to sew women's clothes and curtains at home for people in her neighborhood.

2. Nilufar Boymurodova, a graduate of the computer course from Vobkent District, received a laptop as part of her business initiative and with the support of her family and friends, independently purchased a printer. Now, Nilufar provides digital services in her neighborhood, helping with creating, editing, and printing texts. The equipment is set up in a small shop, ensuring a steady stream of customers. In the near future, Nilufar plans to expand her range of services by purchasing additional equipment.

3. Nargiza Ikromova, a graduate of the “Confectionery Skills” course from Peshku district, took out a loan after completing her vocational course and purchased a professional oven. She now bakes bread and bakery products for schools and preschool institutions in the district. Due to the high quality of her products and the growing demand, Nargiza is considering hiring additional staff to keep up with the increasing volume of orders.

All graduates shared their sincere thanks to the project for giving them the chance to take free vocational courses and for supporting their business initiatives.

As the project reaches its halfway point, there are still tasks and plans ahead, offering new opportunities for those who believe they can improve or change their lives.
