The government officials appreciated the contribution made by the European Union and the German Government in providing access to education for prisoners and underlined the timeliness and relevance of the project actions to the current needs of the country and the target group.

The project on” Promoting Access to Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights to Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Tajikistan” is implemented by the Country Office of DVV International in Tajikistan in partnership with local Public Organizations: “Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law” (BHR) and NGO “Jahon”.

The two-year project will support 300 prisoners at the penal institutions #3/8 in Nurek town and #3/6 in Yavan town, as well as over 1,100 ex-prisoners in 10 cities and district centers of Tajikistan. The project contributes to implementation of the prisoners’ social, economic and cultural rights by their greater involvement in training and production activities within prisons. It enables prisoners to receive new knowledge and skills, as well as to gain revenues for their work and improve their living conditions. The project also provides support for ex-prisoners through social reintegration consultations and referral services.
