Within the framework of the project "Promoting social change and inclusive vocational education" one of the important recent activities was the piloting of the inclusive adult basic literacy programme, which was launched by the NGO League of Women with Disabilities "Ishtirok" in September this year.

According to Olim Sattorov, project assistant of Ishtirok, the aim of this course is to develop basic literacy skills for people with disabilities who have not received school education for various reasons. "Thanks to our courses, they learn basic literacy skills in counting, reading and writing. Getting basic literacy will help people with disabilities to improve their participation in personal, social and economic life," he said, and noted further that the courses have been held in Dushanbe for 4 months, covering 15 young people with disabilities.

A working group of local experts was set up to develop the curriculum, including manuals and handouts. Upon completion of the pilot course, the curriculum will be finalised and submitted for approval to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan for further application in the formal education system.

This activity is carried out within the framework of the project "Promotion of Social Change and Inclusive Vocational Education" with the financial support of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is implemented by DVV International in Tajikistan in partnership with the Association of Adult Education in Tajikistan and the League of Women with Disabilities "Ishtirok".
