On January 29, 2021, in the penitentiary institution 3\6, located in Yavan district, 2 exams were organized for male prisoners who had been trained in the professional courses "Carpenter" and "Welding".
In December 2020, within the framework of the project "Promoting Access to Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights to Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Tajikistan" (SECRET-3), started the process of vocational courses for 2 groups of male prisoners in the penitentiary institution 3\6 on professions of "Carpenter" and "Welding". Teachers of these professions adapted their curricula to organize training, taking into account the regime in the penitentiary institution. In addition, during the professional courses, all precautions for contamination of COVID-19 (masks, antiseptics and social distance) were observed.
10 trainees of the vocational course "Carpenter" and 13 trainees of the vocational course “Welding" during the educational process tested the acquired theoretical knowledge in the corresponding workshops, which have specialized equipment for carpentry and welding works. Participants of the courses demonstrated their products: kitchen furniture, chairs, barbecue and other products.
During the exams, male prisoners noted importance of obtaining such professions, since construction work is proceeding at a high pace in the country, in which such professions as a carpenter and a welder are in demand. They were also highly motivated to participate in other training activities of the project, in particular in the courses like business planning and project development. This will give them a chance to find their way after being released, free of delinquency and non-compliance.
The vocational courses are organized by the project partner, Public Organization “Jahon” in close cooperation with the branch of State Institution "Center for Adult Education of Tajikistan" of Yavan district which provides vocational course teachers.
While awarding the Certificates, Director of the Center for Adult Education of Tajikistan in Yavan district noted that these Certificates are recognized not only in Tajikistan, but also in all countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
This activity is carried out within the framework of the project “Promoting Access to Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights to Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Tajikistan” (SECRET-3), funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The project is being implemented by DVV International in Tajikistan in partnership with local civil society organizations “Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law” and “Jahon”.
