On December 17, with the support of the DVV International Tbilisi Office, the final event of the project “The Power of Radio” was held. The event summarized the activities carried out within the project, the results achieved, and the key steps taken toward strengthening community radio stations.
The event brought together representatives of community radios from different regions, project partners, media professionals, and invited guests. During the meeting, participants shared experiences, discussed the project’s impact at the local level, and reflected on the role of community media in enhancing civic engagement and access to information.
“The Power of Radio” was a seven-month initiative implemented with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office. The project aimed to strengthen the institutional and professional capacity of community radios operating within 12 adult education centers across Georgia.
The project included a range of significant and diverse activities, such as a series of intensive three-module training programs held in Gori and Kutaisi, designed to enhance journalistic, technical, and content production skills for radio leaders. An international study visit to Nuremberg, Germany, was also organized, where radio representatives visited various community institutions to exchange experiences and deepen their knowledge.
One of the project’s key achievements was that, over a five-month period, 12 community radios produced hundreds of programs tailored to the needs of their communities, receiving strong interest and support from local audiences.
According to data presented at the final event, both the number of programs produced within the project and their viewership and listenership figures exceeded expectations, clearly reflecting the growing interest in community media and the project’s effectiveness.
At the conclusion of the event, participants emphasized the importance of continuing similar initiatives and expressed their gratitude to the project team and supporting organizations for their work.
The project “The Power of Radio” once again demonstrates that strong and well-developed community media is one of the essential foundations of a democratic society.
