On August 1, 2024, the DVV International Moldova (DVV International) Country Office jointly with two local partner organizations - Association of Independent Press (API) and Youth Media Centre (CMT) - started the new project "Media and Information Literacy in Moldova".The 17-month project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and aims to improve media literacy among Moldovan adults, with a focus on the rural population in the northern part of the country.
On September 18, 2024, the launch event of the project "Media and Information Literacy Initiative (MILI) in Moldova" was held with the participation of representatives of public institutions, donor organizations, civil society and media.The project aims to improve the capacity of adults and young people to reflect critically on the information they are consuming and to develop critical thinking skills about the media landscape, resilience towards fake news abuse and making responsible choices.The project will be implemented in 22 localities in 9 districts in the north of the country: Briceni, Ocnita, Dondușeni, Edineti, Drochia, Glodeni, Soroca, Riscani, Fălești, involving various groups of the population. Adults from the designated localities will meet in friendly discussions on current news topics, guided by recognized local mentors, while selected groups of young people will learn aspects of digital media product development in training camps. At a later stage of the project, both young people and adults (including seniors) will meet in media labs to create multimedia content together.
At the end of the event, the thematic panel on "Strengthening Moldova's Information Resilience - Exploring the Challenges Affecting Different Generations" was organized with the participation of Marcela Luchita, Head of the Development and Partnership Directorate, Centre for Strategic Communication and Combating Misinformation, Marcela Adam, Member of the Parliamentary Commission for Culture, Education, Research, Sport and Mass Media, Viorica Zaharia, media expert, President of the Council of Experts / Press Council of Moldova, Natalia Strogoteanu, program coordinator, media education trainer, Youth Media Center, Andreea Covganet, volunteer and promoter of media education.
