We are proud to mark the completion of the project “Women's Rights Ambassadors for Empowerment and Change in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” funded by the European Union.
This project was far more than a series of activities - it served as a space for connection, empowerment, learning, solidarity, and concrete action aimed at advancing the social and economic rights of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through collaboration with women, young people, local communities, institutions, and civil society organisations, we developed initiatives that opened important conversations, amplified women’s voices, and contributed to building a more just, equal, and inclusive society in the Una-Sana and Tuzla Cantons, as well as the Birač region.
The results we are especially proud of demonstrate the project’s tangible impact and value:
- 200 women were empowered through educational and mentoring activities designed to strengthen their knowledge, self-confidence, and civic engagement;
- 20 Women’s Rights Ambassadors were trained and empowered to continue acting as agents of change within their communities;
- 140 young people were educated by the Women’s Rights Ambassadors on the importance of gender equality, women’s rights, and active citizenship;
- 1,512 primary school students successfully completed an online training programme on human rights, with a particular focus on women’s social and economic rights, and earned the title of Junior Ambassadors of Women’s Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
- 9 local gender action plans and 3 strategic documents were developed, representing an important contribution to the long-term improvement of women’s status at the local level across 12 municipalities and cities;
- Sustainable educational and resource materials were created and remain available for further learning, advocacy, and engagement with various target groups.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the European Union for its trust and support, and to the municipal and city administrations in the 12 participating local communities (Milići, Srebrenica, Vlasenica, Bratunac, Bihać, Bosanski Petrovac, Cazin, Bužim, Tuzla, Srebrenik, Lukavac, and Živinice) for their excellent cooperation. We also thank all partners and collaborators who were part of this journey. Together, they worked to ensure that women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment received the attention and recognition they deserve-in communities, education, public spaces, and everyday life.
Although the project is formally coming to an end, the values it championed-equality, dignity, knowledge, empowerment, and collective action-remain a lasting commitment and an inspiration for everything that lies ahead.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this journey. Together, we built change. Together, we move forward.
