Last week, the delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the high-level roundtable “Advancing lifelong learning in the context of EU accession and neighbourhood”, held on 18–19 November and organized by the European Training Foundation (ETF) in cooperation with DVV International and under the patronage of the City of Turin.
The event, which brought together nearly 90 representatives from EU Member States and candidate countries, focused on reforms in adult education systems, financing, validation of non-formal education, micro-credentials, and the development of lifelong learning ecosystems.
Bosnia and Herzegovina received an award for progress in introducing systems for the recognition of non-formal education and informal learning. Representing DVV International – Office for BiH was Director Dženita Džano, while the academic community was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amina Isanović Hadžiomerović from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. Zlatan Saračević, President of the Council for Adult Education of Sarajevo Canton, also contributed by joining via Zoom and presenting the current situation in BiH, with a focus on Sarajevo Canton where the Council operates.
During the two-day program, participants visited two adult education centers in Turin – CPIA “Paulo Freire” and Camerana Learning Hub – where innovative learning models and partnerships between public, private, and civil sectors were showcased.
ETF Director Pilvi Torsti emphasized that “adult education is crucial in an ageing Europe and in a rapidly changing labor market,” while DVV International Director Esther Hirsch highlighted the importance of flexible and high-quality systems that enable access to learning for all adults.
