Promoting Access to Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights to Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Tajikistan

On October 13-17, 2020 within the framework of the project "Promoting Access to Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights to Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Tajikistan”  (SECRET-3), a 5-day training was conducted on Entrepreneurship skills development ex-prisoners. The training was conducted by the NGO partner Jahon.

Purpose of the training was - To expand the opportunities for former convicts in terms of income generation and reintegration into society. Participated 15 ex-prisoners (out of which 8 women and 7 men). The objective of the training was to increase the potential for start-ups and encourage employment for persons released from prison.

The training course provided an opportunity for ex-prisoners to develop entrepreneurship skills and helped them prepare a business plan. Following topics were covered during the training:

who is an entrepreneur, working with business ideas, market and your business, opportunities for obtaining grant support for the implementation of business ideas, marketing, cost price and pricing of products / services, SWOT analysis. In the part of "Working with the format of business plan applications", a practical exercise was conducted for participants in filling out applications from the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, Bank  “Imon International” to obtain grant support for participants. In the section "Sources of financing for business activities" the following points were discussed: loans, grants, own contribution and the possibilities and risks of using various sources. In the section "Types of business", they discussed issues of individual entrepreneurship, production cooperative and legal responsibility, taxes, insurance. It was observed that small group work and presentation gave participants a deeper understanding of the intricacies of doing business.
