Civil Society Organizations build their capacity in delivering courses for people with disabilities on basic literacy skills

NGO “The League of Women with Disabilities “Ishtirok” in Tajikistan arranges a five-day ToT for partner civic society organizations to deliver basic literacy skills to PwD between October 14-18, 2020. The activity aimed at training of trainers to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills of youth with disabilities left behind their peers according to inclusive education curriculum “Adult Training for Basic Literacy”.

NGO “The League of Women with Disabilities “Ishtirok” in Tajikistan arranges a five-day ToT for partner civic society organizations to deliver basic literacy skills to PwD between October 14-18, 2020. The activity aimed at training of trainers to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills of youth with disabilities left behind their peers according to inclusive education curriculum “Adult Training for Basic Literacy”. 

The inclusive education curriculum “Adult Training for Basic Literacy” was developed by the working group represented by local experts for teaching people with special educational needs aged 14 and over who do not have basic literacy - writing, reading, counting skills. The program was piloted in December 2019 involving 17 youth with disabilities having different disabilities. Besides learning essential literacy skills, the trainees learnt additional soft skills that enabled them to became more independent and to socially reintegrate.

Later the pilot curriculum was recommended for use by the Method Council under the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan and approved by the State Institution “Training and Methodology and Learning Quality Monitoring Center under the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan.

This activity is implemented within the framework of the project "INCLUSION: Promotion of Social Change and Inclusive Education in Tajikistan" funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The project is implemented by the Country Office of DVV International in Tajikistan in partnership with local NGOs Adult Education Association of Tajikistan and the League of Disabled Women "Ishtirok".
