Scientific-practical conference "Development of andragogy in Kyrgyzstan: prerequisites and challenges"

As part of the Decade of Adult Learning and Education 2024, the I. Arabaev Kyrgyz State University hosted a two-day international scientific-practical conference ‘Development of andragogy in Kyrgyzstan: prerequisites and challenges’, which was an important step in promoting adult education in Kyrgyzstan.

As part of the Decade of Adult Learning and Education 2024, the I. Arabaev Kyrgyz State University hosted a two-day international scientific-practical conference ‘Development of andragogy in Kyrgyzstan: prerequisites and challenges’, which was an important step in promoting adult education in Kyrgyzstan.

The event attracted experts from Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science. Speakers included the rector of the Kyrgyz State University, leading academics, representatives of international organisations and practitioners in the field of andragogy. Also the guests were the ex-minister of education of Kyrgyzstan - Bolzhurova Ishengul Sadykovna, as well as international experts from Belarus - Elena Kasyanik and Hamidakhon Khakimdzhonova from Uzbekistan.
Conference objectives: 
- To raise awareness of experts and practitioners about current trends in adult education in the country
- to familiarise participants with the processes at international and country levels in promoting andragogy as a profession  
- to familiarise participants with the adapted andragogy training programmes in the Kyrgyz Republic
- to form a common understanding of the methodology and further practical steps of institutionalisation of andragogy in the country.
- to familiarise with successful experience of promoting AIA in Kyrgyzstan and other countries.
The topics discussed at the event were: the contribution of civil society organisations and international organisations in the development of ALE, the development of andragogy as an independent discipline, the role of universities in the development of adult education, the development of human resources and training system for ALE and others.
The conference became an information and communication, discussion platform for interested specialists, decision-makers at local and national levels and all supporters of the promotion and development of adult learning and education. As a result, recommendations for further steps for the promotion of andragogy and training system in Kyrgyzstan were developed.
