On 15 March 2019, DVV International and the State Penitentiary Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on providing training for the inmates in three penitentiary institutions of Kyrgyzstan (institutions No. 3 in Novo-Pokrovka, No. 5 in Moldovanovka and No. 6 in Stepnoe) on the base of vocational schools.
Within this cooperation during 2019, DVV International supported the construction and renovation works, and equipped the training premises (greenhouse) of Vocational School No. 6 at the penal institution No. 2 in Stepnoye village, where classes were held among inmates on protected soil agriculture. Further on all working materials and visual aids were purchased. Participants of the course were women aged from 27 to 58 years.
A similar course on greenhouse agriculture is currently being held at the Vocational School No. 1 at the penal institution No. 3 involving 8 male participants aged from 24 to 70 years. The classes began in September 2019, the enabling methodology attracts a lot of interest and the teacher, candidate of agricultural sciences, clearly explains each relevant topic. The penal institution also has its own greenhouse, which was provided by DVV International within the framework of cooperation, as well as the necessary construction and training materials. The course will be completed in December of this year.
This year, we also started working with the penal institution No. 27, located in the Moldovanovka village, with a reinforced detention regime, the total number of convicts is about 300 people. The Vocational School No. 5 works at this institution, on the basis of which the pilot course "Manual electric welder" is was launched. Here DVV International also supperted the rennovation of premises for theoretical and practical training, as well as joint public spaced. The project provided the necessary equipment, training materials and visual aids. The course involving 10 participants of the age from 44 to 48 years runs from September to December 2019. At present, all repair and construction works have been completed.
