Developing strategic thinking: libraries master Curriculum Managerale tools
From 14 to 16 May 2025, a training for administrative staff of public libraries was held in Issyk-Kul, organized by DVV International in Kyrgyzstan as part of the international Curriculum Managerale program. The event became an important step in the systematic development of managerial competencies of administrative staff of adult education and training centers.
Curriculum Managerale is a modular professional development program aimed at strengthening the leadership, organizational and analytical skills of managers in the field of adult education. One of the key modules, “Needs Assessment and Strategic Planning,” became the substantive basis of the training.
Over the course of three days, participants not only mastered the theoretical aspects of a systematic needs assessment, but also learned in practice how to turn this data into effective development strategies for their institutions. The focus was on the ability to form a realistic vision, determine priorities, allocate resources and involve key stakeholders in the implementation of plans.
The practice-oriented approach allowed the participants to develop their own draft strategic plans adapted to the needs of their communities. These skills are especially relevant in a context where libraries are becoming access points for informal education and platforms for social interaction.
The training confirmed the importance of implementing Curriculum Managerale as a tool for institutional development. DVV International will continue to support libraries in their transformation from traditional cultural institutions into full-fledged centers for knowledge management and human potential development at the local level.
