"Challenges of transformation of adult education in Kyrgyzstan and possible cooperative actions", conference on 25 April 2024 in Bishkek.

In the modern world, adult education (AE) plays an increasingly important role. It allows people to adapt to changing conditions, learn new knowledge and skills, and realize their potential. In Kyrgyzstan, as in many other countries, AE is part of a system of lifelong learning that provides access to lifelong learning.

The conference "Challenges of transformation of adult education in Kyrgyzstan and possible cooperative actions", organized by the Kyrgyz Adult Education Association (KAEA) with the support of DVV International and Association of Development of Education gathered experts, representatives of government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders to discuss the development of adult education in Kyrgyzstan.

The conference in Bishkek became a platform for exchange of experience and information in the field of AE. Invited speakers in their presentations told about: the current situation and objectives of the SDGs in AE in Kyrgyzstan, the "Marrakech Framework for Action", the programme "Development of Adult Learning and Education in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2023-2030". Regional Director of DVV International in Central Asia Galina Veramejchyk shared international experience in promoting AE.

Nadezhda Romanenko, Country Director of DVV International in Kyrgyzstan, presented the ALESBA (Adult Learning Evaluation Support and Assessment) methodological approach to the assessment of adult learning. The participants of the event discussed challenges and opportunities for the development of this sphere in Kyrgyzstan, as well as made proposals for the launch and celebration of "Adult Education Day in Kyrgyzstan".

Some of the key points that were raised at the conference:

- Adult education is an important part of sustainable development. It allows people to adapt to changing labour market conditions and improve their competitiveness.

- It is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of adult education. Informing people about their rights to education and available educational programmes is key to increasing participation.

- Partnerships between different stakeholders need to be developed: Public authorities, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders need to work together to ensure access to adult education for everyone.

- Research and analytics: the key to systematic promotion of adult education in Kyrgyzstan.

The conference was another step towards the development of AE in the country. The event drew attention to this important topic and contributed to the elaboration of proposals for further development.
