In an era of growing globalization, the world faces not only new opportunities, but also new challenges. Along with structural socio-economic and political changes, the knowledge economy is being formed with its new working environment, other forms of social organization and communication channels.

In an era of growing globalization, the world faces not only new opportunities, but also new challenges. Along with structural socio-economic and political changes, the knowledge economy is being formed with its new working environment, other forms of social organization and communication channels. Adult education is an essential response to the challenges we face and is a key component of a holistic system of lifelong learning.

In Uzbekistan, adult learning and education is a promising area for study. Not a single scientific and applied research has yet been carried out, which could form the basis for the development of concepts and programs for the development of this sector of education. The first experience in this direction was the project of the Oila Scientific and Practical Research Center under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which was carried out in partnership with the DVV Branch in Uzbekistan. Within the framework of the project, a sociological study was conducted using the tools of the European Union in determining the degree of adult participation in adult education and training (Adult Education Survey) - "Participation in adult education and training in Uzbekistan", the main objectives of which were:

  1. Analysis of the potential of state (formal sector) adult education institutions and non-state educational institutions (informal sector) working with an adult audience;
  2. Preparation of an analytical report “Participation in adult learning and education in Uzbekistan”.

The report and results of the project were presented to the government, the expert community, relevant government departments, non-state educational institutions and the media to further develop policies to promote adult learning and education.

This report became the basis for the first National Report on Adult Learning and Education in Uzbekistan, which will soon be completed and presented to the general public.
