In February, a training was held in Tashkent for journalists and representatives of civil society institutions on the topic “The Role of the mass media in Providing Social and Psychological Support to Vulnerable Groups”. It was organized by the NGO Training Center for Journalists and DVV International in Uzbekistan with the financial support of the British Embassy.
The participants discussed issues of legal, social protection, rehabilitation and re-socialization of persons, including women, who returned after serving their sentences; stigma and stereotypes in the public mind regarding these groups of people; media potential in exercising public control over the activities of relevant bodies and institutions. Much attention was paid to the issues of competent use of legal terminology in media materials.
Following the discussions, media plans and recommendations for a competent coverage of relevant topics were developed. At the end of the training, DVV International announced a competition for journalists "The best publication on social partnership." The same nomination will be supported by DVV International in the upcoming next competition of journalists "Oltin Kalam".
