Vocational School No. 1 of the Agency for Primary Vocational Education under the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyz Republic was opened in 1969. In due time, the school was equipped with the necessary training equipment, staffed, working in two shifts and training workers. Gradually, the equipment decayed or became out of order, experienced teachers and masters retired. However, a new stage in the development of the school began, thanks to the partnership with DVV International. Over the past ten years, the activity of vocational schools in six correctional institutions of Kyrgyz Republic has been restored. New professions demanded on the labor market have been introduced, physical infrastructure has been improved, learning processes have been activated. A binary training method has been created, where theoretical and practical classes are combined in each lesson, interactive methods, video equipment and Internet technologies are used online. Professions which the convicts are trained in are in demand on the labor market, and manufactured products and services are in demand among the population. In Vocational School No. 1 such training courses as "manufacturer of wood art products" and "plasterer/tiler" were opened in September of this year.
